Cooperation TUM-StMUV

In an agreement between the Bavarian Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection (StMUV) and the Technical University of Munich (TUM), which entered into force in December 2019, both institutions committed to a close cooperation in national park research.

Research is a key domain of universities and TUM is a world-renowned university of excellence. One of TUMs focal areas is research into topics of sustainability and land use, which is concentrated at the Weihenstephan campus of TUM. Berchtesgaden national park, in turn, offers the opportunity for long-term research into ecosystems and their natural development without human intervention. The connection between the university and the national park therefore results in unique opportunities for gaining new insights into ecosystems and their changes. In addition, the cooperation provides the scientific basis for evidence-based management of protected areas.

The cooperation agreement builds a bridge between excellent science and its application in practice in the context of conservation management. Under the agreement between TUM and the StMUV Prof. Dr. Rupert Seidl and PD Dr. Sebastian Seibold jointly manage the research and monitoring department in Berchtesgaden national park.
